Michaelangelo!!! And no other!

I should play Okami in full - I got really annoyed by being made to sit through a 16 minute unskippable cutscene at the beginning that I put it aside and then I forgot to go back. I know it's a great game, but I have strong feelings about lengthy unskippable cutscenes. I think working as a tester can do that.

I loved Brett's Haiku review of Okami. Can a wolf save us? Haaahahahaha!

Here are your credits, Paparazzi Pras.

A big warm sloppy thankyou to Pras for his insistence at taking my photo every five damn minutes and triggering unintentional epileptic/tourretes-style responses and premature blindness with that infuriating flashbulb.

You asked for it :-P

(ta for the photos Pras. I'll buy you a birthday drink)

Great interview! I especially liked your advice for people looking to get into the games industry. Some good perspective there.

If you're still answering questions, Lauren, here's one:

What's one piece of of advice you wish someone had given you before you'd gotten into the games industry?

Well, the thing I wished I'd been told was - never work for free for no reason! I had a Multimedia degree, so I worked in a few non-games studios first - web/animation/e-learning that kind of thing. A bunch of places asked for 'trial weeks' where I would work and they wouldn't pay. It was so shifty! Naive and trusting, I got screwed over many, many times as a fresh-faced university graduate. Going 6 weeks without a paycheck while a company 'sorted out my contract' was quite an experience. When it arrived it was for an appallingly shorter term than they had told me it would be... sigh... good times, good times.

However, I volunteered to help Eyecon with their demo because it was a little more strategic, and I'd not change that decision. They were cool and they didn't send me off empty-handed - they gave me a little present before I went. That was definitely the only exception!

It's ok, Coxster. I have no actual power when it comes to product PR - My PR work involves telling all and sundry how great it is to work here. You're under no obligation to be nice to anyone wink.gif

Thanks for the kind feedback - it's strange to answer interview questions, so I'm pleased it was coherent, let alone good!

Hey there Lauren

Being nearly 33 yo, would you think it's too late for me to get into your line of work? I'm a people person and can cut it infront of crowds (b/g in hospitality and entertainment).

I'm looking at event management and PR courses ATM

oh thank god, so we're starting up the 'I hate Yug' fanclub again? Have you let Matt know? I mean he started the club in the first place. Hey good work on going undercover to gather intelligence on Yug too Lauren, I told Matt you were the perfect woman for the job.

Matt will no longer have to work for Yug anymore and shall have his place back upon the throne once again.

Then, and only then, will there be peace in this kingdom...ok i've pretty much worn out my welcome. (oh and if what you were saying that you have no power when it comes to product PR turns out to be false i'm only kidding smile.gif haha.

ok enough silliness, great interview Lauren, nice to meet you and back to Halo 3 for me smile.gif

Age isn't really of any consequence in this job. The important qualities are to be organised; communicate clearly; and keep track of many things at once (the latter perhaps not being my greatest strength...). I think production work suits certain personality types; some skills you just can't learn from a book or a course. Another important skill is empathy, you have to deal with all kinds of people and you need empathy in order to adjust your communication style to suit your audience.

I don't actually have any kind of PR background or qualifications, I used to organise a lot of events at work - skirmish matches, trivia nights - for a fundraising thing I was doing at the time. When this job came up, I'd kind of proven myself capable of organising events, so PR tasks were written into my job description!

Trivia Nights? Now you're singing my song sister!

If you ever need another one for your current work, look me up. I have been running my own Trivia Shows for 4 years around my local area - just remember my slogan:

CAV'S QUIZ - It's the Best Trivia Show Around, No Questions Asked!
